Stephen King: "Top 20 Rules for Writers"

Though King is not known as an essayist, his general advice for writers applies as well to this course as to any writing course.

Like any advice about writing, not all writers -- from laureates to the yet-undiscovered -- follow his 20 rules. I don't.

In this course, I'll suggest techniques that are incompatible with his rules; there are no correct rules for writing well. Generally, try things out and see what works for you.

Ways to write are as varied as writers themselves.

Feel free to discuss his advice in the forum at the end of this module. Which rules do you think would work best for you? Which rules can you not imagine being helpful?
